i am reading about how passkeys work, not looking for a deep technical explanation but something that's more on the "person learning about a tool on the computer" kind of level. i am supremely unsatisfied with what i am finding because everything beyond "it is a new way to log in!" immediately goes into cryptography jargon. and surely there is something to grasp between those things.

where is the compelling story for passkeys for people who aren't nerds. is it that there isn't one or that nobody's figured out how to tell it.

this evening i reluctantly enabled a "passkey" as a way to log into a "website". and then i used the passkey to log into the website.

review: i got into the website but i do not like that i don't know what a passkey is. it gets me into the website? how does it do that????? a password is like a little secret we have but a passkey is ?????????
